The Burlington is the most highly regarded restaurant in Yorkshire, boasting a Michelin star and 4 AA Rosettes...
Located at the Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel on the Duke of Devonshire's 30,000 acre Bolton Abbey Estate, even the drive to get to the restaurant is breathtaking, with fantastic views over the Yorkshire Dales, and of course the stunning backdrop of Bolton Abbey.
Superb food is part of the magic of The Devonshire Arms, and Head Chef, Steve Smith’s reputation precedes him, having held a star at each of his previous postings over the past eleven years. Each dish is exquisitely and freshly prepared, using Estate meat and game with seasonal vegetables and herbs from their own extensive kitchen gardens. Restaurant Manager,Valentin Gadzhonov, speaks enthusiastically about The Burlington’s use of local, seasonal produce, explaining that first-time visitors come to sample to food, but return customers come back for the service.
The wine list is awe inspiring. Nigel Fairclough has been Cellar Master for Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants for over ten years and will be delighted to recommend specific wines to complement your meal. The wine list offers over 2,500 bins, and has won several awards over the years, including being named one of the top 10 in the country. The restaurant itself is supremely elegant with pale aubergine walls, adorned by classical architectural drawings (from the renowned Devonshire Collection at Chatsworth), and soft intimate lighting. Antique tables are dressed with designer silverware, fine crystal glasses and stylish white china, setting the scene for a memorable dining experience.
Head chef, Steve Smith says:
“Whilst we are obviously delighted with the kudos of being the most highly rated restaurant in Yorkshire, the most important thing to us will always be the enjoyment of our guests. We work hard constantly innovating and creating exciting new dishes for you to try as well as creating a comfortable atmosphere through unimposing yet friendly service. “

Restaurant manager, Valentin Gadzhonov says:
“Steve is widely recognised as one of the finest chefs in the country, and the reputation of the Devonshire brand speaks volumes, but what continues to impress me is the dedication and commitment of my team. Each and every one of the front-of-house staff is efficient, helpful and passionate about their job. They appreciate that people come to the Burlington expecting something special, and they work 100% towards ensuring that they exceed these expectations. We surprise some guests who previously felt intimidated by the idea of the Burlington, and it is those people who I want to reassure; yes we kindly ask that you wear a tie, but that’s where the formality ends, so come in, enjoy yourself, and let me get you a glass of wine!”
